Gradient or slope of a straight line.

Mathematicians have developed a useful and a more meaningful measure of the steepness of stairs or a line. This is called the slope or the gradient of the line. this is referred to as the ratio of the vertical rise to the horizontal run when moving from one fixed point to another.
